The Superyacht Singapore Association would like to congratulate Captain Tom Burland, CEO and Chairman of Asia Superyachts Pte Ltd Singapore, on its recent appointment as Asia’s first actual “onboard” IYT Licensed Superyacht Training School in SouthEast Asia Singapore and Malaysia (SYT Asia).
IYT SuperYacht Crew training will be carried out physically onboard the Luxury Superyacht Polaris SP1132D. Polaris is a 52 metre Superyacht based in Singapore. IYT has 70 partnership schools in 28 different countries and its Master of Yachts courses are recognized by 27 Governments worldwide.
Starting from May, SYT Asia will be offering courses from absolute beginner and competent crew right up to ICC and Master of Yacht Unlimited (celestial navigation). The IYT Master of Yachts 200 Ton Coastal, Limited, Unlimited and International Certificate of Competency (ICC) courses are recognized by the MCA Maritime and Coastguard Agency UK, Australia and US Coast Guard. The courses can be taken in modular format to suit people who wish to partake of the courses in the evenings, weekends, or as fulltime study. Duration can range from one day for courses like Introduction into Superyacht Crews, to the One Week Competent Crew Course, right up to 16 weeks of intensive training from Novice to Captain (this one is called the Zero to Hero course).
The SSA is particularly delighted with this new development as it furthers Singapore’s ambition of being a major superyacht hub in the region.
