March 20, 2011, The Sunday Times reports that the sight of 20 spectacular superyachts will attract boat-lovers and landlubbers alike when the inaugural Singapore Yacht Show launches with a splash.
The exhibition is organised by the Informa Yacht Group. More than 5000 people from businesses in the superyacht industry are expected to attend.
IYG's manageing director Andy Treadwell says South-East Asia could become the "third destination" for long-time yacht owners, after popular yachting spots in Mediterranean and Caribbean.
The event's supporting partner Singapore Tourism Board and its deputy director for cruises, Mr. Remy Choo, says the event is targeted at high-net worth individuals in Asia who are looking for luxury collectibles like the yachts. "We hope this event will attract more yachts to call into the region and entrench Singapore as the regional hub for luxury yachting."
Mr. Arthur Tay, Chairman of One°15 Marina Club, says the superyacht culture here is set to grow and Singapore can eventually be the "Monaco of the East"....
