Responding to an invitation by ONEº15 Marina Club (SUTL Group), the host venue for the Singapore leg of the 2008-2009 Volvo Ocean Race, SSA members enjoyed a totally perfect weekend of sea, sun and racing!
During a fantastic weekend with solid breeze and no rainpour, the Singapore in-port race equally captivated members of the public and SSA members. On board Tomana (day 1) -65ft open by the Rodriguez Group and Il Lido (day 2) -44 Beneteau catamaran- SSA members who responded to the (very last minute) invitation (sincere apologies!) had the privilege of watching the race close and almost personal...
A mostly flat sea if not for the localized strong currents (which are pretty much everywhere, so not so localized indeed), ever changing winds, VIP spectators area filled with yachts of pretty much all sizes (one could almost include the supertankers laying right next to the race course), extra competive sailors, everything contributed to make the event the highlight of SSA's activities for the month of January. Thank you STB, SDC, ONEº15 Marina Club and various sponsors for going to such great lenghts to entertain us. That's very touching...
